Chances are, you’ve noticed that charcoal is having a moment. Whether it’s in beauty products or health food items, charcoal is making its mark on everything from charcoal lemonade to charcoal toothpaste. (Big no to both–when I tried the toothpaste it was so messy with black splatters all over the sink!)
Despite my misgivings about charcoal and its actual health benefits, I was open to trying the Love + Charcoal Masque by One Love Organics because I like this brand for its use of natural and organic products.
- Activated Charcoal: Draws out dirt and debris
- Rose Clay: Absorbs dirt and excess oil
- Alpine Rose: Boosts the skin’s natural defenses
- Organic Aloe Vera & Cupuacu Butter: Softens fine lines and wrinkles
First of all, I love that the first ingredient in the Love + Charcoal Mask is organic aloe vera juice. Because of this, the mask’s texture is ever-so-slightly slimy, but not in a bad way. It basically feels like aloe vera gel. If you’ve ever had aloe vera gel, then you know what I’m talking about.
After washing my face, I applied the mask. It goes on very smoothly and it’s not grainy or rough at all. The smell is yummy–it’s subtle and reminds me of sweet almond oil, although there isn’t any almond oil in the mask. Unlike other charcoal masks, it’s not abrasive and actually feels pretty nourishing.
After about 20 minutes, the mask dries but it doesn’t really harden the way other masks do where you feel like your face is going to crack. I simply used warm water to wash it off, but you can also gently wipe it away with a warm washcloth.
The final result: My skin felt really soft and clean. Of course, I still had the zit on the side of my chin but it did dry up a bit the next day. I recommend the Love + Charcoal Masque by One Love Organics and I’ll certainly be using this jar until it runs out. Just keep in mind, at $49 for 2.1 ounces it’s not exactly cheap.
