Celebrity Sisters Who Are Keeping It Real

It’s No Sister Act–These Famous Female Siblings Truly Love and Support Each Other

Oh, sister! We love celebrating women supporting one another, and it’s fun to see when the women also happen to be family. Here are some of our favorite famous sisters who prove that blood isn’t only thicker than water, but it’s thicker than fame, fortune and even competition.

Beyonce Knowles & Solange Knowles

These superstar singers are known the world over, but being sisters is more important than all the fame and fortune. (Who could forget Solange giving Jay Z that notorious elevator beat-down for cheating on her big sis?!) And they are always so supportive of one another despite being in the same competitive music business. As Solange told her big sis Beyonce in the January 2017 issue of Interview magazine, “You did a kickass job. You were the most patient, loving, wonderful sister ever. In the 30 years that we’ve been together, I think we’ve only really, like, butted heads…we can count on one hand.”

Even though these tennis champions are often pitted against one another on the court, there’s nothing but respect between these two icons. As Serena said in a December 2017 In Style interview: “”I definitely had one of my biggest failures at the US Open in 1999. Serena and I were both in the semi-finals in the US Open. We were kids … and I asked her, ‘So, Serena, are you nervous about tomorrow? And she’s like, ‘No, I’m not nervous because we have to show up. And since we have to show up, why not compete?’ And that was the best advice I ever got in my life.”

Emily Deschanel & Zooey Deschanel

These sisters have made it big as TV stars but in an interview with Conan O’Brien, Emily Deschanel, who’s three years older than sis Zooey, admitted that she wasn’t exactly the nicest sibling growing up: “Well we get along very well now, [but] I would kind of torture her. I was the older sister, and it was just the two of us. So I would play mental games with her. My favorite one was where I would tell her that I was from Neptune (that I was Neptunian) and I’d killed her sister, taken over her body, and I was going to kill her next.” Maybe that macabre fascination is what made Emily perfect for her role in “Bones”!

In a May 2017 interview with Radio Disney, Miley Cyrus said of her little sis Noah who’s seven years younger than she is: “I hope people continue to be really sweet to her, and compassionate and respectful of her and just don’t judge her and don’t be too harsh on her. Because I’m not worried about her, it’s everyone else that can be really hateful and harsh towards her. I want her to grow up and be able to really feel confident and not feel insecure about how anyone’s ever made her feel.” What a loving big sister!

Sasha Obama & Malia Obama

The former first daughters are among the world’s most famous sisters, but because of their young ages, we’ve never really heard from them. That will likely change as time goes on. During a September 2017 interview with Bill and Melinda Gates for their charity foundation, former President Barack Obama said his daughters “will choose to participate in different ways [in society] because they’ve got different temperaments, different strengths. You don’t have to go out and lead the protest march. If you are a brilliant engineer, you don’t have to make a speech. You can create an app that allows an amplification or the scaling up of something that is really powerful if you’re someone who likes to care for people. There are a lot of different ways to make a contribution and I try to emphasize that to them as well.”

Rashida Jones & Kidada Jones

You might more easily recognize Rashida Jones from TV shows like “The Office” and movies such as “I Love You, Man,” but her older sister Kidada also has her own celebrity history–she was engaged to Tupac Shakur at the time of his death and even got him to help Rashida for a class assignment. In a 2005 Glamour Magazine interview, Rashida had this to say about her sibling: “Kidada was cool. I was a dork. I had a serious case of worship for my big sister. She was so strong, so popular, so rebellious.”

Rooney Mara & Kate Mara

These two stylish sisters have each made a name for themselves–younger sis Rooney Mara in movies like “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” and Kate Mara on shows including “House of Cards” and the movie “Chappaquiddick”–but it’s the love they have for each other in real life that is worth the spotlight. As Kate said about her sis Rooney in a June 2017 ABC interview: “When she became an actor, we actually lived together in my apartment for the first year or two. We would both go on auditions and come home and talk about the terror of certain auditions and funny stories and so it just became something super special that you can actually bond with a sibling with which is very rare.”
