Side Hustle Spotlight: “You won’t know what you’re capable of until you decide to go after what you want.”

Jessica Jimenez-Jones talks about her entrepreneurial spirit and how a side gig has empowered her and her family

Jessica Jimenez Jones of Origami Owl

I got into this business because…

I became an Origami Owl Independent Designer in 2018. I was looking for a side hustle to help pay for my son’s college tuition. After having been a part of a few different MLM’s (Multi-Level Marketing) through the years, I knew I needed to find something special.

I’ve always loved jewelry and have even made my own bracelets. I started searching for different jewelry MLM’s and came across Origami Owl. I did my research and really liked what I found out.

Not only would this help with my son’s tuition but I would be able to build a business that my daughter’s would be able to a part of. Origami Owl has a program called Owlettes and BROs (Boys Representing Origami Owl).

With this program, girls and boys age 13 and up get their own recognition for any sales, learn valuable tools and gain a great entrepreneurial experience. They offer great incentives and make it really easy to work your business, which is especially important for me since I work a full-time job.

Some of the biggest challenges I face in this business are…

Reluctance from people unsure about the quality of the product. Also, people who don’t have time to host Jewelry Bars (jewelry party). These Jewelry Bars don’t have to be in person, they can be done via Facebook or by just sending around a catalog at work, church or at a group function.

Some of the greatest rewards in this business are…

Talking to people, sharing the jewelry, inspiring people to put a locket together that means something to them. Helping others share their stories through our lockets.

My products/services help women to…

Share their stories with the world. Be it the birth of a child, the memory of a loved one or a struggle they may have gone through, stories are created in the lockets and worn for all to see.

I believe in the products I offer because…

I really fell in love with being able to design your own Living Locket. Our stories, experiences, and moments in our lives changethis is a great way to memorialize those certain instances. We also have different necklaces, bracelets and earrings.

Some of the women I admire or who have inspired me in my life are…

My mom and my aunt. My mom’s strength and determination are qualities I have always admired in her. My aunt is constantly striving to better herself through education, which has shown me you’re never too old to learn something new.

Lastly, I am a huge fan of Rachel Hollis, her motivational podcasts and books have helped me learn it’s OK for me to try something new and different despite others’ opinions.

My advice to other women who are thinking about running their own business is…

GO FOR IT!!!  Do not let fear of the unknown stop you from trying. You won’t know what you are capable of until you decide to go after what you want.
